Layer One

Here’s a little peek at our bedroom. I’ve been waiting to show anything from our apartment because I still feel like it looks empty, but I realized that rooms come together in layers. This is the first layer of our room, and I love it.

The bedding is West Elm. Doesn’t it look like a giant cloud? The color is called sea foam and is a super light grey. The gold pillow I made with leftover fabric from our wedding decor.

The mirror we found while antiquing.

I posted about our Etsy art here.

What do you think? Any suggestions?

  1. We made our headboard using burlap fabric and nailhead trim and I love it! It cost around $75 to make for a king size bed. It’s a great alternative if you want to spend your money on other items for your room. :)

  2. Love that dresser…great find! I think a headboard or some sort of art/mirror above the bed will help fill in the second layer. Of course side table will too! Love the bedding…definitely off to a great start!

  3. your bedroom is lovely! I am loving the white bedding…it looks so comfy.I am excited to see what you do for a headboard, have you ever seen people use old doors?I love that look :)

  4. Love this :) The room really gives off a romantic, but cozy vibe.
I think your ideas are right on, keep looking for headboards on craigslist. We found a great one on there :)

You just motivated me to show more of our bedroom on our blog too, I have refrained from doing that because we have SO MUCH work to do in there, but it’s true rooms take time to come together.

  5. Fabulous start! I looove that mirror! Lamps with a gold base would play off the mirror nicely and pillow nicely. Then add some color… throw pillows, blanket drapped over the end, old books and flower vase for the end tables… can’t wait to see what you do!

  6. i absolutely love that bed spread… i have something similar from west elm in ivory… it’s fantastic! gorgeous job so far!

  7. Oh Im loving the ideas you added! I’m that way too, thinking and planning and considering, theres just so much you can do with something starting out empty, I think your well on your way and the layers is so true! I wanna see more of this! :)

  8. i JUST got the west elm catalog in the mail and was obsessing over this bed spread! they have so many that i am ga-ga over! i love the one you picked! beautiful!

  9. I really love everything! It seems so YOU :)

And I agree that things like this come together in layers — but you’re doing a great job so far!

  10. too funny! I just moved into a condo with my boyfriend and everything is decorated except for the bedroom. We also desperately need a headboard, side tables and art. We also have that west elm duvet, and I’ve had the siiso etsy art saved on my desktop forever! The similarities are uncanny. I can’t wait to see what you end up doing! And I can’t wait to finally tackle my own room.

  11. Looking great Natalie, but maybe I’m biased because I have very similar doona cover but in white white. I love it so much.
Can’t wait to see it when you’ve finished x

  12. I bought that exact duvet cover from West Elm when it was on sale about a month ago! I can’t wait to try it out in our new apartment. That room is absolutely gorgeous, fresh, and tranquil!
