When cooler weather comes around I tend to change my skin and hair routine to accomodate. I have naturally dryer hair and skin so cold and wind can just make things worse — here are some products that I’ve been loving lately that have worked wonders for my hair and skin.
Virgin Coconut Oil | This is basically a miracle product and food. I apply it to my entire face at night (super scary because it looks greasy and has the word oil in it) but it’s actually anti-acne, anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-wrinkle, multi-vitamin — the list goes on. I also apply it to my hair as a hair mask and leave it in for about an hour before I shower. I also have been eating it (about two tablespoons a day) — eating it has tons more benefits that you can read more about here. Make sure to get organic, virgin coconut oil if you buy!
Weleda Iris Hydrating Day Cream| I just started using this day cream under my makeup in the morning and it’s amazing. It’s made my skin look so dewy and healthy — perfect if you live in a dryer climate. It’s really rich and a little goes a long way. It also smells amazing! Get it 20% off with code CN20 here.
Apple Cider Vinegar| Another miracle product — I use this as a toner after washing my face. I also use it as a hair rinse and it makes my hair super shiny (be sure to dilute it if you’re using it directly on your skin or hair). I also take about two teaspoons of this a day (I drink it with water or apple juice). If you buy make sure to get organic, raw, unpasteurized with the “mother” in it. You can read all about it and its health benefits here.
Dr. Haushka Rose Body Oil | I have been using this on my skin after patting dry after the shower and I’m obsessed with how it feels. It makes my skin so soft and even in the evening it’s still glowing from the moisture. It smells incredible — a must if you like a good rose scent. Get it 25% off with code DH25 here.
What are your go-to products for winter time? I’d love to hear!
I must have been living under a rock because I just recently learned about balayage effect — a coloring technique that is easier and more natural than normal highlights (it’s done freehand instead of with foils). It’s how you get the ombre effect on hair, but it can be done in highlight form, too. I love, love the look! A few weeks ago I decided to give it a try (I started with a half head instead of a full head). The results are really natural, sun-kissed look that gave me just the right amount of dimension and color. I may go bolder and do a full head next time, but one of the amazing things about balayage is that you don’t have to get it re-done very often (or ever, if you don’t want to). It grows out really naturally since it’s less extreme than normal highlights. It really is the best of everything! I’m curious, have you ever had balayage done to your hair?
P.S. Over the weekend I guest posted on Becca’s blog about my favorites for fall! Check it out here.
ONE Buxom Buxom Amplified Lash Mascara | After I read about Natalie’s great mascara experiment I went out to try her department store pick. I’ve been really loyal to drugstore brand mascara for a while so I wanted to try this out and it didn’t disappoint. I could tell a difference right away in my lashes, super long, thick, and non-clumpy.
THREE Xen-Tan Premium Sunless Tan Dark Lotion | I’ve been looking for a good sunless tan product for a while and this one is perfect. It has really olive undertones, so there’s no orange at all. It’s really easy to apply and dries super fast.
I’ve been totally inspired by pictures and pins of girls with really full eyebrows lately. I haven’t ever had super thin eyebrows, but I want to be more conscious about them when I get them waxed, and how I take care of them. It’s amazing what a difference having great eyebrows makes on your face! Here are a few tools I’ve been using to help maintain them.
